Athalia sings her way to success
Boyne singer, Hildah Athalia More Mohlatlole (27) says her performance on SABC 3's Afternoon Express in 2020 has opened many doors for her.
LIMPOPO – Hildah released her 10-track album last year and performed her single Golden on the show. She told BONUS that she began singing at an early age and while at university in 2015, she decided to pursue her talent further by singing at beauty pageants, weddings, business functions and parties. “Singing on the Afternoon Express was an amazing experience and gave me plenty of exposure. I release music independently under the name Athalia More as I am not registered under any record label,” she said.
In 2018, Hildah met a music producer Innovative DJz, who had noticed her on social media and featured her on a Gqom track, Dubai which went viral on several radio stations, MTV Base, Channel O and Trace Urban. “I don’t limit my talent. Instead, I allow myself to explore genres but I stick to dance music,” she said.
Hildah says her stage name, Athalia is her paternal name and More alludes to her being a multitalented singer. Aside from featuring on Dubai, Hildah has also featured on Bekezela’s hit single, Bekezela and the two have released a new single titled Baba.
Hildah says her music lecturer, Dr Alta van As is the one who afforded her the opportunity to perform live at functions hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand, and it was then that she realised she could make a career out of music. “I haven’t looked back since. Music has become a huge part of my life,” she said.
