LIMPOPO – Two Limpopo traffic officers have been commended after allegedly rejecting a R100 000 bribe offered by people caught transporting medicine without the required pharmaceutical licence.

Provincial Inspectors Khubana and Nwendamutswu were conducting a stop-and-check operation in the Masisi area of Vhembe District when they intercepted a vehicle carrying two Zimbabwean nationals and two South Africans.

The occupants were allegedly transporting medicine without a pharmaceutical licence or certificate. They were handed over to Malamulele police, where a case was registered.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the group then allegedly offered the officers R100 000 in exchange for their release.

Officers refuse bribe

The officers refused the bribe and made an additional arrest on a charge of bribery.

MEC for Transport and Community Safety Nakedi Kekana praised the officers for their handling of the incident and said she would engage the provincial commissioner to ensure they receive formal recognition.

“These officers are a shining example of what it means to serve with loyalty and integrity. They chose the people of Limpopo over personal enrichment,” said Kekana.
