IT and leadership is Karabo’s mix
Karabo Masemola is the head boy of Capricorn High School.
POLOKWANE – The 19-year-old is an IT enthusiast and says he really enjoys studying the field. “I like IT because it shows us the many things we can do with technology and how it can be used to our advantage,” he explained.
When he is not at school, he likes to play soccer and cricket, watches a lot of Anime and plays video games. “If I had to choose one sport to continue playing it would be cricket because it is a gentlemen’s sport. We have tea breaks, we do not play in the rain and we get to wear hats and protect our skins with sunscreen,” he joked.
The affable Karabo explained that in order to stay afloat with his studies he dedicates five days of the week to studying and makes use of a study time table.
“I study each subject for a minimum of two hours and for subjects I am not confident about, I give an additional 30 minutes to an hour. My Saturdays are rest days and on Sunday, I focus on previous question papers,” shared Karabo.
Karabo admitted to feeling a certain amount of pressure being the school captain but added that it also motivates him to do and be better.
“What I do lays the foundation of how the people outside the school view Capricorn High School.
“If I fare poorly as the head boy, it gives the impression that that is the standard of the school,” he said.
He has learnt to respect people’s views and says even though leading is hard, with a confident and supportive team, nothing is impossible. “As much as it is an intimidating position, the team makes it easy. Everything has been possible because of their support.”
His message to his fellow learners is to not lose focus. “Let go of the past two terms and focus on what you are doing now and do your best by avoiding distractions,” he said.
