Joe Mashigo bids Naptosa farewell
Joe Mashigo recently retired after 15 years of service at the National Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) Limpopo and on November 6, a farewell party was held in the PEMPS school hall in his honour.
POLOKWANE – Mashigo joined Naptosa Limpopo in 2006 as the provincial secretary after he was deployed from Gauteng.
He is ready to lay down his pen as he prepares to settle into retirement.
“I had a great time and created memories that I will cherish forever. It wasn’t always easy and there is a lot of hard work and sacrifices that came with the job but I did it wholeheartedly. As I bid my farewells, I can really look back and be proud of the work that I have done in the province,” he said.
Mashigo’s contract ends at the end of November after he requested an extension on an earlier retirement date.
“I requested this extension because 2020 wasn’t a good year and I could not have properly handed over and formulated a succession plan. I didn’t want to leave behind loose strings, and so I opted for another year.”
He leaves behind a legacy of the successful running of the organisation that has shown tremendous growth and has formed good relationship with the Education Department and institutions of higher learning.
Mashigo added that he will always be a phone call away for consultations, however, he is looking forward to getting some rest.
“As much as I plan to rest, I will always avail myself on a consultative basis whenever I am needed,” he added.
