New Polokwane council sworn in
The Polokwane Municipality's inaugural council meeting for the 2021-2025 term took place on Monday and saw over 2 000 people take up spectator seats.
POLOKWANE – The Ngwako Ramahlodi Indoor Sports Complex was filled to the brim by residents who came out in their numbers to support their ward councilors who were officially sworn into office.

A total of 90 councillors took the oath and were sworn in by a local magistrate before they elected three councillors to take up the position of mayor, speaker and chief whip of the council.
The ANC’s chairperson of the Peter Mokaba region and current mayor, John Mpe was re-elected into the position of mayor.
Mpe was initially deployed to the position in September when the former mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng took up the position of deputy minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Welhemina Modiba was elected speaker of the council with 57 votes out of 69 and Adolf Rapetswa as chief whip.
The spectators never missed a moment to cheer on their favourite candidates and often broke into song and dance to celebrate with opposition parties often trying to out-sing each other.
