Two Sekhukhune constables in hot water
A constable attached to the Sekhukhune Police Station has been arrested, while his accomplice is being sought.
LIMPOPO – A 41-year-old Sekhukhune Police Constable is expected to appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court today (December 9).
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Serious Corruption Investigation members arrested the constable at the police station yesterday (December 8).
According to a statement by Limpopo Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke, the constable was arrested on allegations of corruption.
“In December 2017, the suspect and another constable conducted patrol duties in the Sekhukhune policing area when they saw a tractor and pulled the driver over. The driver of the said tractor was searched and the police allegedly found cannabis in his pocket. The duo then reportedly demanded gratification from the driver,” Maluleke explained.
He said the tractor driver reportedly paid R2 100 to the constables, and was subsequently released.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks for investigation and after a successful investigation, the constable was arrested at the police station. The other constable is being sought,” he concluded.
