Man arrested in posession of 81 nyaope sachets in Polokwane

The man (26) was arrested on the corner of Jorrison and Compensatie Streets during ongoing weekly operations by Limpopo police.

POLOKWANE – A 26-year-old man is among 871 suspects arrested during weekly operations by Limpopo police.

The man was arrested on April 28 on the corner of Jorrison and Compensatie Streets in Polokwane after members of the Limpopo Flying Squad followed up on a tip-off.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said police searched the man and discovered the drugs with a street value of R15 000. “R50 000 in cash, believed to have been gained from selling the drugs was also found and confiscated,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the provincial organized crime unit, together with the crime intelligence unit monitored a drug dealing syndicate at a rental flat in Tarental in Southgate outside Polokwane.

“An intelligence driven operation was conducted and resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old foreign national for being in possession of CAT and crystal meth with an estimated street value of R80 000 at the premises,” he said.

Seabi added that all 871 suspects have started appearing before local magistrate courts and face charges that include possession and dealing in drugs, murder, robbery, rape, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and the Contravention of the Immigration Act, among others.

“During these operations, police seized a large number of counterfeit sticks of cigarettes, dangerous weapons, grams of dagga, dagga plants, grams of cocaine, crystal meth and nyaope, four firearms, large quantities of liquor, 17 knives and one stolen vehicle was recovered. 845 fines were issued.
