Food aides arrested after taking packs of groceries from Letaba Hospital

The MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba said unethical conduct such as theft, fraud or corruption must be met with rage whenever it appears.

LIMPOPO – Two food service aides at the Letaba Hospital were arrested and charged with theft after they were found in possession of groceries allegedly stolen from the hospital’s grocery storehouse.

The MEC for Health’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha said the personnel were arrested on Monday morning (July 11) while leaving the hospital after knocking off from their night shift.

“The vehicle that they were travelling in was searched by security and six packs of groceries was found in the boot. Police were called and the two aides were arrested,” he said.

The MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba congratulated the security officers for a job well done. “Our department is operating on a shoe-string budget as it is. We can’t afford to have leakages of resources caused by unethical and ill disciplined personnel. We therefore want to commend the security personnel for doing their work without fear or favour,” she said.

Ramathuba added that unethical conduct such as theft, fraud or corruption must be met with rage whenever it appears.
