Masemola: Newborn’s decomposed body found dumped on doorstep

Police say the circumstances surrounding the murder of a day-old baby in the Masemola area form part of ongoing police investigations.

LIMPOPO – The police in Limpopo have opened a case of murder and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a newborn child in the Masemola policing area last week.

The baby’s decomposing body was found wrapped in a plastic bag on an unnamed family’s doorstep in the Ga-Mashabela village in Masemola on Thursday morning (September 15).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the baby girl was a day old and was strangled before her body was placed in the bag.

“The mother of the child has not been identified as yet and the circumstances surrounding the murder form part of ongoing police investigations,” he said.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe described the murder as horrendous and disturbing and urged the investigating team to be relentless in hunting down the suspect(s).

“Those responsible for this barbaric act should be brought to book. We call on the community to come foward with any information about the mother of the child or about the murder to speed up the investigation,” Hadebe said.
