Wanted suspects terrorising the Vhembe district arrested

One of the suspects is currently in hospital under police guard after being shot during a shootout with police.

LIMPOPO – A coordinated intelligence driven operation in the Fondwe village in the Siloam policing area outside Thohoyandou has led to the arrest of two wanted suspects.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said members of the trio task team in the Vhembe district received information about two men, aged 21 and 34-years-old, allegedly responsible for a spate of murders, robberies, rapes and burglaries committed in Thohoyandou, Levubu, Waterval, Malamulele, Siloam, Mphephu, Vuwani and Saselamani.

“When the team approached the identified location, the suspects shot at them and their tactical prowess reigned supreme as one of the suspects was arrested,” a statement read.

Mojapelo said the other suspect was injured during the shootout and managed to evade arrest. Two pistols with serial numbers filed off were recovered at the scene.

“In the early hours of Sunday morning (October 30), information was received about an injured man who gained access to an unused house in the Mandala village under the Siloam policing area. On arrival, the team found the suspect with a bullet wound and arrested him as he was correctly identified.”

Mojapelo said the suspect was admitted to hospital under police guard.

The duo woll appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of attempted murder and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition as three pistols, a pellet gun and ammunition was recovered during the opertation.

“Investigations are underway to link the suspects with a serious of serious crimes,” he said.
