Univen student stabbed to death at tavern

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested for the murder of Khuthadzo Cornelius Sinthumele (24) who was recently stabbed to death.

LIMPOPO – “The death of a student at the University of Venda (Univen) is one too many, and law enforcement agencies must speed up the investigation.”

These were the sentiments of Univen spokesperson, Dr Takalani Dzaga, after a student, Khuthadzo Cornelius Sinthumele (24) was recently stabbed to death.

“We are saddened by the news that one of our students was stabbed to death and we send our heartfelt condolences to the Sinthumule family in Tshakhuma-Muhovhoya,” Dzaga said.

The acting spokesperson for the SAPS in the Vhembe region, Sgt Vuledzani Dathi said police in Levubu are investigation the murder, after Sinthumele was stabbed at a tavern in Tshakhuma village last Sunday morning.

According to information, a group of men provoked tavern goers and a struggle ensued which led to Sinthumele being fatally stabbed. He was certified dead on the scene.

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested, and appeared in Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on October 24.

The case was postponed to November 4 while he remains in custody.
