Dentist taps into fashion industry with shoe collection
Zelda Mulungwa said her shoes are unique because she makes them herself and added there are a few difficulties she came across in this industry, which is completely new for her.

POLOKWANE – Zelda Mulungwa is a full-time dentist who not only cares about your teeth, but about your feet as well.
Recently she started to venture into the shoe-designing world with her free time, while still practising as a medical professional by day. Mulungwa is based in Bendor and is the founder of her newly launched online shoe store called ZeldaM.
She explained her journey started in 2018 when she found herself surrounded by other women who are involved in businesses in addition to their everyday professions. With a few shoe collections already in her closet, she decided to capitalise on her love for footwear. “In 2020 I did a course in shoe design and pattern engineering at Style Architects. It took me another 2 years to accumulate the needed tools and materials to start making shoes.” Mulungwa told BONUS she embraces her two full-time jobs with ease. From 07:00 – 16:00 she is at work as a dentist and in the evenings, she goes home to be a shoemaker and a mom to her son. “The best part about my side business is that it is an online store.” She said people can expect shoes that are custom made and proudly made in our South African and unique way. People can follow Mulungwa on Instagram, Facebook or place orders online at Zeldamcreations.com
Mulungwa said her shoes are unique because she makes them herself and added there are a few difficulties she came across in this industry, which is completely new for her. As I was tapping into a whole other professional world, I didn’t know how or where to start. I spent a lot of time researching the industry and trying to get a factory to manufacture my shoes but failed, so I decided to make them myself. I am new in this footwear industry and I am yet to learn all the challenges that come with this field,” she said.
