POLOKWANE – Families across South Africa celebrate Christmas in different ways and while some prefer to travel and go on vacation, others prefer to spend it at home.
The Polokwane Review-Observer asked a few residents how they usually spend their Christmas.
Charles Madupi: I believe Christmas is that time of the year where far and near families come together as one to bond and share laughter and stories they’ve experienced throughout the year. We gather either at my house or cousins house and buy each other gifts. Everyone gathers around the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, and we all open our gifts. We then have a delicious three-course-meal.Tshego Tladi: We go on a vacation with my partner, my family and his family, along with our children. We always make sure to visit destinations that are child-friendly so that they can also be able to enjoy Christmas. We usually prefer going to swimming pools where we can cool off.Mahlatse ‘Vokal’ Matji: December is my busiest time of the year as a performer because I am booked for many gigs. There isn’t much rest as I bounce from one event to another. Though most of us are used to busy schedules by now, I’m sure most artists can agree that when I say by the time New Year approaches, we’re all exhausted.Mihlale Seputla: We would usually visit family so that we could spend the entire period together. It’s tricky to get everybody together during the year so December is a good time for everyone to meet. This is where we cook and dine as a family and feast together.Tshepiso Mashiane: Christmas and New Year are the most enjoyable times of the year for me because we get together as a family. We get together and cook, eat, drink, play games and dance to music and open gifts. For more breaking news follow us on FacebookTwitter Instagram or join our WhatsApp group
