Nicki turns recycled material into beautiful accessories

Nicky Foster has a knack of turning recycled goods into bags and clothing and also prints designs on shirts which she sells at local markets.

POLOKWANE – With over 21 years of business experience, Nicky Foster is adding bag-maker to her repertoire.

Nicky makes bags and clothes out of recycled materials and her business has grown tremendously over the last five years.

Nicky told the Polokwane Observer that she believes in the process of reducing, reusing and recycling and her preferred material is denim due to its quality.

“Denim has many varieties of blue and is durable as a second-hand fabric,” she said.

Apart from the different fabrics used, adding a bit of creativity to her bags she also adds a cherry on top through the use of old broken zips, buttons, ribbons or whatever can be recovered.

Not only does she make bags and clothes out of recycled materials, Nicky also prints on shirts which includes non-cracking, non-peeling or fading print which is stretchable.

She also gives back to the community by teaching people how to sew. “I like training people in the art of sewing and giving them a chance to learn a new skill,” she added.
