Lim SAPS launches Operation Safer Festive Season

Filed dockets of business robberies across Limpopo in October painted a picture that may be of concern to business owners.

POLOKWANE – Even with limited resources affecting service delivery as a result of budget cuts in the police service, police in Limpopo expressed their readiness on Monday to combat crime in the run-up to the festive season.

Trio crimes which include business robberies recently picked up, according to Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe and as such, bold plans have been made to prioritise resources including placing community service vehicles at crime hotspots.

Bold plans to priortise resources like community service vehicles are in place at crime hotspots areas.

This came to light during the launch of Operation Safer Festive Season in the Sekhukhune district.

Meanwhile, filed dockets of business robberies across Limpopo in the last week of October painted a picture that may be of concern to business owners as the festive season is fast approaching.

Police only provided information on eight high profile business robberies to the media last Monday, which leaves room for the possibility of more cases having been reported than actually meets the eye, as remarked by city policing forum chair, Rudolph Phaswana.

Suspected stolen goods worth R10 000 confiscated by police from five suspects.

In the cases referred to, a complex, café, shopping centre, tuck shop and liquor trader had been targeted using a sharp object or gun during the day.

On Thursday, Polokwane contributed to the statistics, when five suspects aged between 30 and 35 were arrested after they were caught with goods worth R100 000.

Last Wednesday, Polokwane Observer learned that officers were on standby at several centres awaiting to arrest drivers of vehicles suspected to have been stolen.
