Leshikishiki village man (39) in court for rape
The victim was apparently forced to accompany him to his RDP house in Leshikishiki village, where the crime was committed.
POLOKWANE – A 39-year-old man will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the rape of a 21-year-old pregnant woman on January 13.
Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said the victim, who was asleep, was awoken by her grandma to see who was knocking on their door. She then realised he was already in the house.
The victim was raped after the man threatened her, and forced her to accompany him to his RDP house in Leshikishiki village.
“The victim opened a case of rape and the police arrested the suspect at his home on January 14,” a statement reads.
Provincial police commissioner Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe lauded the Lebowakgomo Police for their quick response that led to the arrest.
“Victims of rape or any sexual offence are encouraged to report these cases without shame, so that these rapists can be removed from the community,” said Hadebe.
