SAMWU murder trial: Widow says delay tactics adds strain on families

The Radzuma brothers are accused of the murder for two slain Samwu officials, Timpson Musetsho (50) and Roni Mani (50) in separate incidents in 2019 after they were vocal against the VBS saga.

LIMPOPO – Luvhengo Musetsho, the wife of slain Samwu member in the Vhembe District Municipality, Timson Musetsho said the delay tactics used by the accused in the case is placing unnecessary strain on the families and that the Limpopo High Court in Thohoyandou needs to expedite the matter with a sense of urgency.

Musetsho spoke to the media outside the court last Monday, soon after the trial of the Radzuma brothers was again postponed, this time to July 8.

“The trial has experienced several delays and I have lost hope in the law enforcement unit at large. Each time there is a postponement, we get emotional and frustrated,” she said.

She said it was important for the family to get closure.

The case against the three Radzuma brothers was postponed after the judge presiding in the case was in Polokwane attending to civil matters.

Simon Radzuma, Percy Radzuma and Ndivhuwo Radzuma surprised relatives, friends and union members who attended the court proceedings, when their legal representatives requested that they want their case to be transferred to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court as they intended to apply for bail.

Simon and Percy are tried for among other cases, the murder of the two slain Samwu members in the Vhembe District Municipality, Timson Musetsho (50) and Mani (50), who were gunned down in 2019.

Ndivhuwo, the elder brother of the two, is convicted in another murder case, which involved a person who is said to have been a suspect in the murder case of Mani and Musetsho.

Adv Ntsako Hlongwane, one of the legal representatives of the three, told the court in Thohoyandou that it was vital for the court to take into consideration the three’s intention to apply for bail based on new evidence.

Limpopo High Court judge Logodi Phatudi, who presided on the day, postponed the case.
