POLOKWANE – An eight-hour electricity supply interruption will affect a large part of Polokwane on Tuesday, says the Polokwane Municipality.

The planned interruption will take place on Tuesday between 08:00 and 16:00.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said the interruption will allow the municipality to undertake essential maintenance work.

“The interruption is necessary to facilitate the removal of broken guard wires from 66kV lines as they pose a significant risk to the reliability and safety of electricity supply infrastructure,” his statement read.

The following areas and their surroundings will be affected:

“While the planned restoration time is set for 16:00, power supply restoration may occur before the anticipated time as the municipality attempts to restore power supply earlier if possible,” Selala said.

He added that affected residents are strongly advised to treat all electrical wiring as live and to switch off all appliances to avoid injury and damage once power supply is restored.
