Tzaneen police investigate robbery on local farm

One of the two victims involved in the armed robbery attempted to disarm the assailant and sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

LIMPOPO – Police in Tzaneen are investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm that took place at a farm in Tzaneen on Thursday (May 16).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said that the victim and his friend were approached by an armed African male while walking on the farm.

The suspect demanded the victims’ cellphones and instructed them to place the phones on the ground.

As the suspect picked up the phones, one of the victims attempted to disarm the perpetrator and a shot was fired.

The victims managed to escape before one of them realised he had been shot in the leg and went to the nearby hospital for medical treatment.

They then reported the incident to the police where a case of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm was opened.

“Police investigations are continuing,” said Mashaba, “Anyone with information that can assist with the suspect’s arrest can contact, Detective Commander Colonel Zitha Phoyisa on 082 414 3309, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, your nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.”
