Vhavenda traditional leader donates blankets to the elderly

Senior leader Tshivhase said that traditional leaders are custodians of their communities and should not stand by when members need help.

LIMPOPO – As the winter sets in, Thovhele Midiyavhathu Kennedy Tshivhase, one of the senior traditional leaders of the Vhavenda nation, has taken a proactive approach to support the elderly, disabled individuals and learners in Tshidimbini village.

Last Monday, Thovhele Tshivhase, in collaboration with the David Mabilu Foundation, distributed blankets to the elderly and disabled residents to keep them warm during the chilly weather.

Additionally, learners from Tshifhatani and Galanganzhele Primary Schools in Tshidimbini village received donations of school shoes.

Tshivhase emphasised the role of traditional leaders as custodians of their communities, saying that they cannot stand by while some members, especially the elderly and disabled, are in need.

He approached the foundation for assistance, which resulted in the donation of blankets.

“With the onset of freezing winter, the elderly require warmth, hence our collaboration with the David Mabilu Foundation to provide them with blankets. We also identified the plight of learners attending school without proper shoes and decided to intervene,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, the 92-year-old Amos Mavhungu Tshivhenga, expressed gratitude for the donated blankets, emphasising the importance of warmth for the elderly during winter.

Selina Mabilu from the David Mabilu Foundation highlighted their commitment to community support, noting that their company, rooted in the rural village of Tshidimbini, decided to contribute to the initiative alongside Thovhele Tshivhase.
