Suspects connected to Lebowakgomo murder arrested on the N1

A vehicle linked to the murder of a man at a tavern in Boditsane was spotted on the N1 and all four occupants, including the driver, was tactically cornered and searched.

POLOKWANE – Four men between the age of 20 and 32-years-old were arrested on Sunday (July 7) for being in possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition on the N1 at the Mookgophong turn off.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says their arrest follows a murder incident in Boditsane around Mamaolo village in the Lebowakgomo policing area.

“A male victim was shot dead in a local tavern by suspects driving in a white VW Polo Sedan with known registration plates and intelligence leads found the vehicle travelling on the N1 South,” his statement read.

Ledwaba said members of the SAPS Provinvial Flying Squad, the Waterberg Flying Squad, and private security companies activated a quick operation and the vehicle matching the description was spotted.

“The vehicle with four occupants, including the driver, was tactically cornered and searched. Two of the suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, whereas the other two were found in possession of ammunition. All four suspects were apprehended on the spot,” he said.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and commended the team work displayed by the police and private security sector as they had common interest in fighting against criminal activities within Limpopo .

The suspects are expected to appear before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“Two of the suspects are facing an additional charge of contravening of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. Police investigations continue,” he said.
