No arrests yet for Polokwane CBD fatal hit-and-run

A woman was declared dead at the scene of a hit-and-run on the corner of Excelsior and Church streets.

POLOKWANE – By Monday, authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the tragic death of a 43-year-old woman.

The incident occurred on July 6 at around 09:30.

Witnesses reported seeing a white luxury vehicle driven by a man appearing to be in his late 50s, strike the woman at the busy corner of Excelsior and Church streets.

The driver then sped away from the scene.

According to the Polokwane police, the vehicle description provided by witnesses matches their report.

In a related development, Kgaugelo Mphago of the Polokwane Traffic Department confirmed that the same vehicle had earlier collided with a sedan at the corner of Rissik and Church streets, prior to the fatal accident.

The Polokwane Police spokesperson Captain Lesiba Ramoshaba said medical personnel declared the woman dead at the scene.

“We are actively gathering more evidence. Once completed, the docket will be forwarded to the prosecutor for a decision. No arrests have been made,” he explained.
