Shots fired at Ga-Rena rental village during evictions

An altercation occurred between an occupant and enforcement officials, with the suspect firing shots and injuring two people.

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg police have arrested a 44-year-old male after a shooting incident during an eviction at Ga-Rena Rental Village on Wednesday, July 24.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, an altercation occurred between the occupant and enforcement officials during an eviction order at the suspect’s residence.

“The suspect discharged a firearm, injuring two people. Both victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.”

The suspect was arrested at the scene by SAPS officers and is currently in police custody.

“Two firearms with ammunition were confiscated, and one of the firearms is believed to have been used in the shooting. These firearms will undergo ballistic testing,” says Mashaba.

The suspect, who reportedly owns a security company, is expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of attempted murder.

Police investigations are ongoing.
