New Horizon Special School hosts career exhibition

New Horizon's exhibition promotes inclusive education and employability for intellectually impaired learners, inspiring them to explore opportunities.

POLOKWANE  – New Horizon Special School, in collaboration with the Office of the Premier, the Polokwane Municipality and other organisations, hosted a career exhibition for intellectually impaired learners.

The event took place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and aimed to showcase opportunities available to learners with intellectual disabilities beyond their primary, secondary, and tertiary education. Participants included Old Mutual, Capricorn TVET College, the Wholesale & Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA), and the Department of Employment and Labour, among others.

Robinson Phooko, principal, expressed a desire for the province to enhance its education system and curriculum to better support learners with varying intellectual abilities.

Maluta Mulibana from the Office of the Premier’s disability rights and coordination desk thanked everyone involved and emphasised the need to extend the exhibition to other districts.

“We need to demonstrate that individuals with intellectual impairments are employable and to see people with various disabilities gain employment,” he said.

Following the formal programme, attendees had the opportunity to interact with various exhibitors and learn more about the services and opportunities.
