Thohoyandou driving school rewards Mbilwi learners

Edzisani Driving School honours Mbilwi's top learners with free driving lessons, encouraging academic excellence and community development.

LIMPOPO – Edzisani Driving School, based in Thohoyandou, has taken the initiative to encourage academic excellence at Mbilwi Secondary School by rewarding three outstanding Gr 12 learners.

In a ceremony held in the school’s auditorium last week, top performers Nzumbululo Todani, Wangoho Mudau, and Faith Dzhangi were honoured with trophies, certificates, and the unique opportunity to study towards obtaining a driver’s licence from Edzisani Driving School.

The managing director of Edzisani, Mukhoro Nefale, said this is all part of their commitment to giving back to the community by offering free driving lessons to hardworking learners.

“We believe in rewarding hard work. Besides free driving lessons, we also donate uniforms, shoes and organise competitions where learners can win great prizes,” Nefale said.

In 2023 alone, the school helped nearly 15 people to obtain valid driver’s licences, enabling them to drive legally. Nefale said by visiting schools in the Vhembe district, they encourage learners to excel academically.

“We see education as a powerful weapon to defeat poverty and unemployment in rural communities,” he added.

Mbilwi High School principal Nnyambeni Lidzhade, expressed gratitude to Edzisani Driving School for recognising and rewarding learners’ hard work.

“We hope this gesture inspires other learners to strive for excellence, showing that hard work truly pays off,” Lidzhade remarked.

Todani shared his excitement.

“This opportunity means a lot to me. I can now pursue tertiary education next year armed with a valid driver’s licence. I encourage other learners to stay focused and work hard, opportunities will open up for you.”

Todani recently earned additional accolades by winning the National Water and Sanitation Education Programme Award, walking away with a bursary, a laptop, and a tablet.
