Limpopo woman (43) in critical condition after being set alight
A 43-year-old woman was set on fire by attackers seeking her husband, two suspects arrested, three at large, and the family left homeless.
LIMPOPO – Majosi village residents are still reeling from a tragic incident that occurred last Wednesday, when a 43-year-old woman was set on fire inside her house. The woman, now in critical condition, is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
According to reports, a group of five individuals stormed the home looking for her husband, who was not present.
The husband is suspected of involvement in the death of another resident.
During a confrontation, the attackers reportedly doused the woman with petrol and set her alight. In her panic, she sought refuge in another room, but the flames spread and engulfed the house.
The police have arrested two suspects, aged 31 and 32, from Majosi and Masia, and are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining three.
The two suspects appeared in the Tiyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift actions of the multi-disciplinary teams involved in the arrests.
“We applaud the efforts of the Hlanganani Police, Vala Umgodi Task Team, and Mopani Tracking Team, along with Public Order Policing (POPS) units from Giyani, Thohoyandou, and Louis Trichardt. Their coordinated operations resulted in significant progress, but we will not rest until the remaining suspects are tracked and brought to justice,” said Hadebe.
The victim’s family faces additional hardships, as the fire destroyed their home and belongings.
“Everything was burned. It’s a very difficult situation, and we don’t know what to do because we have no money to rebuild it,” said a family member, who chose to remain anonymous.
