Vhembe residents partake in campaign to promote cancer awareness
The Women's Church Forum promotes cancer prevention through healthy habits, encouraging regular check-ups and nutritious eating.
The Women’s Church Forum is encouraging the community members to take proactive steps toward cancer prevention and healthy living. Speaking at a recent campaign, the forum secretary, Stephina Mavhandu spoke about the importance of physical activity and regular health check-ups in reducing cancer risks.
“Our goal is to raise awareness of the health risks caused by physical inactivity and we urge everyone to take their health seriously and conduct regular check-ups, even when they feel healthy. Prevention is indeed better than cure.”
She expressed concern about the growing number of cancer cases in the Vhembe area and said it is important to focus on prevention alongside treatment efforts. She called on the community members to continue testing for cancer and other diseases regularly.
Sarah Maligavhada, an elder of the church, reinforced the message by encouraging the community to adopt healthy habits.
“Our church has always promoted a healthy lifestyle. We need to avoid junk food and processed meat and instead, focus on nutritious eating.”
She urged residents to monitor their health closely and seek medical advice early. “You don’t have to wait until you are bedridden to visit the clinic. Check your body regularly, and if you notice any symptoms, act quickly. Health facilities are open to provide guidance on all health issues.”
