Cappies award their best top 20 learners

Capricorn High School honours top learners at prize-giving ceremony, recognising achievements in literacy programmes and national competitions.

POLOKWANE – Last Monday, Capricorn High School hosted their prize-giving ceremony held at their school assembly in honour of the top 20 learners from Gr 8-12 for the third term.

The occasion was graced by the Capricorn District team led by Lucas Mabotja from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

The purpose of their visit was to recognise learners who participated in various literacy programmes including the Book Club competition, an initiative of Library and Information Services in the department.

The school also participated in national competitions such as the MobiReadathon online reading competition by the City of Johannesburg and the creative writing competition by the South African Literacy Association.

The department showered the top award winners of the literacy programmes with certificates and school bags.

“The CHS Media Centre and the Languages Department are at the forefront of fostering social cohesion within the school community,” said the librarian teacher, Lerato Maluleke.

She encouraged other schools around Polokwane to participate in literacy programmes, which she said serve as platforms to help learners discover and develop their writing and public speaking skills.
