Thohoyandou photographer’s rise to success
Mukonazwothe Mbedzi, a 24-year-old photographer and videographer, has made a name for himself with Zi KD Films production.
LIMPOPO – Photographer and videographer Mukonazwothe Mbedzi has made impressive strides in the creative industry since 2018.
At just 24 years old, the Ha-Mphego village native, located near Thohoyandou, is the founder of Zi KD Films production, now recognised as a reputable name in photography and videography.
Mbedzi’s journey began humbly at Thavhani Mall, where he rented a camera for R100 a day.
“I realised the need for a more affordable and reliable camera, which led me to purchase one on Facebook in 2019. Unfortunately, the camera malfunctioned, and I had to sell it at a loss. However, with the support and encouragement of my family, I acquired a new camera and expanded my services to include video production,” he said.
His breakthrough came when Nakizile and Zee Films encouraged him to explore video production in late 2019. “That advice pushed me to seek opportunities at local pubs, such as Cabal Villa and Hook Up Café, as well as private shoots.
During this period, I also identified rising artists to collaborate with, which allowed me to showcase their performances and build KD Films’ reputation,” Mbedzi recalled.
Although some artists were initially sceptical, KD Films persevered and eventually collaborated with prominent names like T-Man Gavin, Eazy SA, Jr Player, and Razie Kay. “These collaborations increased KD Films’ visibility and credibility within the industry. I began producing music videos for artists and later expanded into covering events such as weddings and parties. By 2023, I had developed partnerships with well-known artists, including Mizo Phyll, Ramzeey, The Capable Boyz, Batondy, MickeyBlack, Metro CMG, Asa Tee, Racha Kill, Fortunator, Slay Marmar, Rude Kid, Mukololo, and Venda Boy Poet.”
Throughout his journey, Mbedzi expressed deep gratitude to his family and friends.
“Their unwavering support has played a crucial role in my success, enabling me to reach this point. I continue to showcase my team’s talents through ongoing collaborations. The story of KD Films is one of dedication, perseverance, and passion for my craft,” he said.
With a strong online presence on social media, Mbedzi continues to expand his services and grow his brand. “My goal is to solidify KD Films’ position as a leading name in photography and videography, offering professional services to a wider audience,” he concluded.
