Seshego entrepreneur’s bespoke rug business

Clement Ledwaba a self-taught rug-making artist, crafts bespoke, personalised rugs, turning his passion into a thriving home-based business.

POLOKWANE – Creating bespoke rugs and mats to perfection, the owner of PilePerfect SA, Clement Ledwaba from Seshego makes personalised rugs by hand at the comfort of his own home.

He told BONUS that what inspired him to make personalised rugs was the love he has for art and creativity.

“As an artist I’ve been drawing on various canvasses, and rug-making was the true art that captured my essence, plus as a freelance artist we are always looking for better ways to create employment and revenue,” he said.

Self-taught Ledwaba, who only works with personalised designs, said he learned the skill from watching YouTube videos, until he perfected it and decided to turn it into a business.

“I give the customer the freedom of design and conceptualise the image they have and I will design that for them.”

From beauty salon names to pet names and even people’s names can be designed on the rugs, including your colour and size preference.

“My business opened in January and is doing well so far, I must say I’m proud of my achievements.”

He added that working from home is convenient.

“It’s the best feeling ever because it gives me enough time to spend with my family and also helps with less expenditure when it comes to work space. I don’t have to worry about paying rent when business is not good. So it’s very convenient to work from home, but you also need to be dedicated and hardworking as well.”
