WATCH: Polokwane’s roads still congested ahead of Easter weekend

Easter weekend traffic volumes remain high in Polokwane ahead of this weekend’s ZCC pilgrimage in Moria.

POLOKWANE – Motorists travelling towards Moria are urged to exercise extreme caution as traffic volumes have surged across Limpopo.

A video taken on the N1 North shows heavy congestion towards the intersection leading to the R71 where many are headed to Moria for this weekend’s Zion Christian Church pilgrimage.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport, increased traffic volumes are being experienced on several key routes in all five districts of the province.

In the Capricorn District, where Moria is located, motorists can expect major delays on:

  • The R71 from Polokwane to Boyne

  • The D4040 from Ga-Maja to Boyne

  • The R81 from Polokwane to Sekgopo

Elsewhere in the province:

Waterberg District:

  • Congestion reported on the N1 and R101

Mopani District:

  • R81 from Sekgopo to Giyani

  • R71 from Boyne to Phalaborwa

  • R36 from Moeketsi via Tzaneen to the Strydom Tunnel

  • R40 from Phalaborwa to Hoedspruit

Sekhukhune District:

  • R579 from Jane Furse to the Moratiwa complex

  • R574 from Moratiwa to Groblersdal

  • R25 from Groblersdal to Verena

Vhembe District:

  • N1 from the Capricorn Tollgate to Makhado

  • R524 from Makhado to Punda Maria

  • P277/1 from Thohoyandou to Mutale

Adding to the traffic challenges, the department has warned of rain in some areas and urges drivers to:

  • Switch on headlights

  • Reduce speed

  • Increase following distance

Motorists are reminded to remain patient, vigilant, and courteous behind the wheel.

Emergency and traffic officials are deployed across hotspots to manage the flow and ensure safety.
