Cell C Vision Drive brings free eye care to Limpopo learners

Cell C and Mashiane Optometrist provide free glasses to 100 Limpopo children through the Vision Drive, boosting learning and eye health.

POLOKWANE – Cell C Limpopo, in partnership with Mashiane Optometrist, recently launched the Gift of Sight initiative as part of their Cell C Vision Drive.

The programme provided prescription glasses to 100 children from seven institutions across Limpopo to support their educational progress and help them reach their full potential.

Cindy Stoltz, Cell C’s prepaid manager for Limpopo, told Polokwane Observer that the team, with assistance from optometrist Dr Moithumi Mashiane, personally visited the schools.

Mashiane conducted eye tests to identify which children needed glasses, noting down the results before providing the necessary prescription eyewear.

“We made sure those who needed specialised lenses or frames received them, so they could see clearly and improve their ability to learn,” Stoltz explained.

Mashiane spoke of the importance of eyeglasses, stating they can address a variety of vision problems, such as difficulty seeing objects at various distances, vision distortions, and eye alignment issues. These glasses will help the children perform better academically and in daily activities, she added.

These visits were conducted at Magwadiba Higher Primary School and Nong Modikwa Primary School, and the gift of sight drive will proceed at Maduma Primary School, Lekgorong Primary, Ipopeng High School, Motholo Primary School, Ikageleng Makobe Primary School and more schools in the same area in April, May and June.
