LIMPOPO – The Provincial Taxi Violence Investigation Unit is investigating a deadly shooting that claimed three lives at a food outlet in Musina Extension 2 on Saturday (May 10).
According to the Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred around 23:05 and left two members of the Beitbridge Taxi Association, aged 36 and 35, dead, along with a 24-year-old suspect.
A fourth victim sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment in hospital.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that members of the taxi association were seated at the food outlet when unknown assailants approached and opened fire. During the attack, a male victim who was hit by stray bullets managed to return fire with his licensed firearm, fatally wounding one suspect while another escaped,” his statement read.
Police have since identified the deceased suspect (25) and a firearm with ammunition, believed to belong to the suspect, was recovered at the scene along with several spent cartridges and bullet fragments.
“We condemn this cold-blooded killing in the strongest possible terms,” said the provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
“Although the motive is still under investigation, taxi-related violence cannot be ruled out. I have ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that the remaining suspects are brought to justice,” she said.
Three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder have been opened at Musina Police Station and Ledwaba said a breakthrough is expected soon.
In a separate incident, Giyani police have launched a manhunt following the murder of a man (28) who was assaulted to death in Xikukwani Village on Saturday morning, 11 May 2025. His body was found in the street with multiple injuries, suggesting he was beaten with various objects.
The motive for the attack is unknown.
