Level 3 severe thunderstorm warning issued for Polokwane

The SA Weather Service has issued a Level 3 severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane on Thursday as rain and cold conditions are expected.

POLOKWANE – The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 3 severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane for tomorrow.

The warning comes as the city anticipates rain and cold temperatures due to a powerful cut-off low system.

With the warning in place, the weather service says its impact includes travel disruptions, possible localised flooding, as well as large amounts of small hail and damaging winds.

The SAWS predicts cloudy and cold conditions on Thursday with a 30% to 60% chance of showers and thundershowers.

Meanwhile, Vox Weather says an icy wind is expected to blow over the province due to onshore winds from the east coast of South Africa.

They predict a high of 15°C for Polokwane, 16°C for Mokopane and 19°C for Tzaneen.

AccuWeather’s forecast predicts a 97% chance of rain for the city on Thursday with 12.6mm of rain expected.

They say it’ll be cloudy and cooler with morning thundershowers followed by a thundershower in the afternoon.

Occasional showers are expected in the evening with a low of 5°C.

Conditions are expected to improve from Friday and into the weekend with highs of between 20°C to 24°C.
