Man stabbed to death in Polokwane CBD over alleged trolley dispute

A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death in Polokwane CBD following a midday altercation outside a supermarket on Church Street

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane police have launched an intensive manhunt for a male suspect following the fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man in Church Street in the CBD on Wednesday afternoon (August 6).

According to the Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred in front of a local supermarket just after midday.

“The police and emergency services were called to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound to his upper body. He was declared dead on the scene.” his statement read.

Ledwaba said preliminary investigations suggest the victim and the suspect were involved in a heated argument over a trolley, which escalated into a physical altercation.

“The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object before fleeing the scene. The victim collapsed on the tar road and succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

The victim has not been formally identified and motive behind the incident remains under investigation.

Police urge anyone with information that could assist in locating the suspect to contact Detective Sergeant Petrus Monama on 083 338 3892, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS app.
