Police seek witness in Haenertsburg culpable homicide case

The Haenertsburg police are appealing for help to trace a man who may assist in solving a culpable homicide case in which a woman was killed in a suspected hit-and-run.

POLOKWANE – The Haenertsburg police have opened a culpable homicide docket after a woman was found dead along the R71 in Maribethema village in the early hours of Tuesday (August 12).

The Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the incident was reported at around 04:00 and on arrival, the woman was found lying in the road with serious injuries.

“Paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was declared dead on the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been with her male friend, identified as Makhaya Justin Malatjie, shortly before the incident. The pair had been returning home after dropping off a child at a friend’s house across the R71,” his statement reads.

Mashaba adds that the community reported hearing screams from the scene and upon checking, discovered two injured people. By the time the police arrived, only the female victim remained at the scene. She is suspected to have been hit by a speeding vehicle.

“Police are appealing to Malatjie, who we believe can assist in the investigation, to come forward. Anyone who knows his whereabouts or has information about the incident is urged to contact Sergeant Pfano Musandiwa on 068 157 3784 or 082 414 3031, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or via the MySAPSApp,” Mashaba says.

Investigations continue.
