Food, flair and hard work: Confidence’s recipe for success

From birthdays to CAF matches, Confidence Rakubu’s catering business, Confidence Events and Décor, brings flavour and flair to every event.

POLOKWANE – For Macheba Confidence Rakubu (38), a love for good food has blossomed into a fulfilling business that brings joy not only to her, but to every client she serves.

So passionate is Rakubu about cooking that her strong work ethic and natural flair in the kitchen have opened doors to cater for weddings, birthdays, major functions, and even CAF matches.

“I love being creative. Although I don’t have formal qualifications, cooking comes naturally to me, and I thoroughly enjoy it,” she said.

She grew up in a family that values innovation, entrepreneurship and delicious home-cooked meals.

Today, she channels that legacy into Confidence Events and Décor, her business that specialises in both Western and traditional cuisine, as well as customised menus tailored to each client’s needs.

Macheba Confidence Rakubu is passionate about her food.

While the business has brought her many proud moments, she says it’s not always easy.

One of her biggest challenges is navigating food price increases while maintaining good relationships with long-time customers.

“Sometimes I have to explain why prices have gone up – it’s never easy, especially with loyal clients who’ve booked me every year for their birthdays,” she said.

But the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. “There’s a special kind of pleasure that comes from hearing people praise your food. That feeling is priceless,” she added.

As the warmer months approach, Rakubu is preparing for one of the busiest times of the year.

Spring and summer are peak seasons for her, and she’s eager to dish up more scrumptious meals and create memorable events for the local market.

You can find her work and updates on social media under Confidence Events and Décor.
