Elderly woman (77) murdered in Thohoyandou

Vhembe police are piecing together the events that led to a son finding his mother with stab wounds and a wire around her neck.

LIMPOPO – Thohoyandou police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 77-year-old woman was discovered at her home in Maniini Block M on Tuesday morning (September 9).

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says officers were called to the residence at around 10:06. On arrival, they found the victim’s son, who identified the deceased as his mother. She was discovered in a one-room house with stab wounds to her upper body and a wire still tied around her neck.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the attack took place earlier that morning, at around 03:30, when neighbours reportedly heard the woman screaming for help. However, they were unable to intervene as the property was fenced off and locked.”

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information that may help trace the perpetrator is urged to contact the investigating officer, Constable Rendani Tshavhungwe, on 072 189 2544, call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, visit the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS App.
