Veld Fire on N11 towards Seshego

Smoke from a veld fire on the N11 is reducing visibility between Harry Oppenheimer and the R567. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously.

POLOKWANE – A veld fire is currently burning along the N11 between Harry Oppenheimer and the Seshego-side junction to the R567, causing heavy smoke and reduced visibility.

The Department of Transport and Community Safety has advised motorists travelling between Mokopane and Steilloop, or from Polokwane towards Mokopane, to exercise extreme caution.

“Consider using alternative routes or drive slowly through the affected area to avoid collisions.”

Safety tips:

  • Reduce speed: Drive slowly to maintain control and reaction time.

  • Use low-beam headlights: Improve visibility and reduce glare from smoke.

  • Keep a safe following distance: Allow extra space between vehicles.

  • Watch for emergency vehicles: Give way to fire trucks and emergency responders.
