Limpopo DJ aims to inspire future talent
Nzhelele's rising star DJ Bucks is carving his path in the music scene and dreams of opening a DJ academy to mentor young talent.
LIMPOPO – Known in the industry as DJ Bucks, Thama Mushoma from Nzhelele is making a name for himself in the music scene.
Music has been part of his life since childhood, shaped by his upbringing and his family’s strong ties to the church. Mushoma’s journey began in primary school and gained momentum as he played at matric dances and local gigs, building his skills and confidence.
He credits his passion for sound to both personal influences and musical role models. “I’ve always been surrounded by melodies, and that kept me inspired,” he said. Along the way, he learned to play various instruments.
DJ Bucks also draws inspiration from established local names such as Crosswavee, J Brain and PiffAudio, as well as big industry figures like Focalistic, Shaunmusiq, DJ Tira and Mizo Phyll. Their creativity and success, he said, continue to push him to refine his craft and explore new sounds.
His dedication was recognised during high school, where he received a trophy for best performing artist in music. With recording equipment at his disposal, he started experimenting with his own mixes, laying the foundation for his career as a disc jockey.
Looking ahead, Mushoma dreams of opening his own DJ academy. He envisions it as a fully equipped space where aspiring artists can access the tools, mentorship and opportunities needed to succeed in the competitive music industry.
“My vision is to cultivate new talent and share my knowledge and experiences,” he said. “DJ Bucks is more than just a name. I represent the heart and soul of a passionate artist dedicated to making waves in the music world. As I grow, my commitment to my craft and the community will leave a lasting impact on the South African music scene.”
