Newborn found abandoned at Capricorn TVET College

Capricorn TVET College confirmed the discovery of an abandoned baby at its Seshego campus and called for sensitivity as the case is investigated.

POLOKWANE – Management at Capricorn TVET College has confirmed the discovery of an abandoned newborn in the bathrooms of the Seshego campus on Friday.

While the identity of the infant’s mother remains unknown, college spokesperson Madire Mashabela confirmed that the baby received immediate professional medical care.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we urge all students, staff, and community members to handle this matter with sensitivity and compassion. We strongly discourage the circulation or sharing of any videos or images related to this incident, as doing so violates the dignity and privacy of those involved,” said Mashabela.

The college issued an official statement following the circulation of distressing photographs showing the infant in one of the bathrooms.

Prior to the statement, Review received a tip-off from a concerned community member in Zone 3, Seshego, who said the incident raises serious concerns about student mental health, pregnancy stigma, and the availability of campus support systems. The source is also confident in the allegation that the infant may belong to one of the students.

This is a developing story.
