Polokwane mother turns unemployment into thriving food business
Tshilidzi Ratshibaya turned her unemployment into an opportunity by launching a small food business selling snacks and offering catering services.
POLOKWANE – Tshilidzi Ratshibaya is using unemployment as the fuel to grow her business.
The 33-year-old from Flora Park started her business in 2021 after struggling to find employment.
With a qualification in hospitality, she decided to capitalise on the experience she gained in college.
She initially started out selling atchar and biscuits that she hand-baked with love.

“I started with the baking but because it wasn’t consistent, I decide to expand into selling atchar. With time, I decided to expand even further and I now sell spinach, roasted peanuts and also offer catering services,” she said.
As a mother of two, she needed to expand her business to make ends meet, especially with the cost of living, she told BONUS.
She loves working with food and experimenting with new flavours.
“I love it when I get positive feedback from my clients. When people get referred to me, it’s the most fulfilling thing,” she said.
She is now looking for new ways to better and expand her business.
“In these tough economic times, it’s important to grab every opportunity”.
