Bus incident closes N1 near Musina

A bus-related incident on the N1 near Ingwe Lodge in Musina has closed the road. Motorists are advised to use Witvlag and Williespoort routes.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, is expected to visit the scene of the horrific bus crash that claimed the lives of 42 people on the N1 North near Louis Trichardt.

The premier will meet with a multi-disciplinary rescue and investigation team on-site at 11:00 today to receive a full briefing on the tragedy before addressing the media.

Later, she and several MECs will visit hospitals where survivors are receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary reports suggest that the bus was carrying passengers from Zimbabwe and Malawi, travelling from the Eastern Cape toward their home countries when it veered off a steep mountain pass near the Ingwe Ranch and plunged down an embankment.

LIMPOPO – Traffic authorities have confirmed a serious bus-related incident on the N1 North near Ingwe Lodge in Musina this evening (Sunday, October 12), leading to the temporary closure of the route.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, is en route to the scene to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts.

Emergency personnel are attending to those involved.

Motorists travelling between Makhado and Musina are advised to use alternative routes while the scene is being cleared:

  • From Makhado to Musina: use the Witvlag turnoff.

  • From Musina to Makhado: use the Williespoort turnoff.

The Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged drivers to remain patient, follow traffic officers’ instructions, and proceed with caution.
