Security guards attacked during robbery at Lebowakgomo water plant

Seven suspects are wanted after robbers attacked security guards and stole goods from a Lebowakgomo water plant.

POLOKWANE – The Lebowakgomo police have launched an intensive manhunt for seven suspects following a business robbery at a local water plant on Saturday (October 25) around 12:35.

According to police reports, two security guards were on patrol duty when an unknown man approached the duty room and asked for water.

“After being given water, the man left the premises. Moments later, one of the guards stepped outside to patrol but returned screaming for help, chased by a man armed with a firearm,” the police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said.

He added that the attackers overpowered the two guards, held them at gunpoint, and pinned them down, before six additional suspects joined in.

“The group then ransacked the premises, stealing a gas cylinder, a box, and multiple boxes containing boots and uniforms, before fleeing the scene. We have since launched a manhunt for the suspects,” Ledwaba added.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant Emmanuel Shabangu on 078 423 3402, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or use the MySAPS App.

Investigations into the matter continue.
