Thohoyandou carpenter carves out Vhembe enterprise

Avhafarei Mangavha has grown Mangavha A.E Carpentry into a trusted Vhembe business creating jobs and expanding opportunities for local artisans.

LIMPOPO – Carpentry has proven to be both a passion and a means of survival for Avhafarei Eric Mangavha, whose dedication to craftsmanship has earned him recognition across Vhembe.

Quality workmanship earns regional recognition

Mangavha, from Ngovhela village outside Thohoyandou, is the founder of Mangavha A.E Carpentry, a business specialising in kitchen installations, tiling, ceilings and partitioning. His reputation for outstanding workmanship quickly set him apart from other carpenters.

The 42-year-old holds a diploma in Carpentry from Mavhoi TVET College, and wasted no time putting his skills to use. Armed with ambition, he stepped into business immediately after graduation, launching his own projects in 2001.

What began as small-scale carpentry work soon grew into something far greater.

His commitment to quality and reliability earned him trust across communities. One of his standout achievements was the ceiling installation at Nzhelele Siloam Hospital, completed under Ekusasa Projects – an opportunity that showcased his professionalism and technical excellence. Today, his portfolio includes homes, institutions and commercial buildings across the region.

Carpentry business grows and creates jobs

As demand for his services grew, Mangavha formalised his brand into Mangavha A.E Carpentry, a company that has created employment for many people over the years.

“Self-employment isn’t difficult if you work hard every day and try new things without fearing failure. My long-term goal is to open branches in other provinces. I would be thrilled to see a Mangavha A.E Carpentry in every province in South Africa.”

He added that creating jobs is one of his biggest motivations, especially given South Africa’s high unemployment rate. Several families are able to put food on the table because of the jobs his company has provided.

His business has become a lifeline for skilled workers, young artisans and general labourers hoping to build stable careers.

Under the umbrella of Mangavha Holdings, new divisions are already taking shape. One of the latest, Mangavha Security Training and Services, aims to offer training and security personnel, further expanding opportunities for unemployed youths and individuals seeking new career paths.
