Seshego police arrest murder suspect linked to 2024 rape case
A 24-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a woman (20) in Moletji, with police confirming he is also wanted for a 2024 rape case.
POLOKWANE – The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, has commended officers in Seshego for swiftly arresting a 24-year-old man linked to the brutal murder of a woman (20) whose body was discovered in Moletji Matekereng last week.
Police were called to the scene last Monday (November 24) where they found the young woman lying half-naked on her back with severe injuries to her upper body.
While her identity has been confirmed, authorities are withholding it pending further investigation and notification processes.
The Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, says Seshego detectives tracked down and arrested the suspect yesterday (December 2) following an intensive manhunt.
“Further profiling revealed that he is also wanted for a rape case reported in Seshego in February 2024 and has been evading police since then.
Hadebe praised the officers for their determination and the speed with which the suspect was located.
“The Seshego Detective Commander and his team did a sterling job by tracking and tracing this suspect for this heinous act of violence. Gender-Based Violence and Femicide has been declared a national disaster and it is for this reason that everyone should play a role in fighting this scourge,” she said.
The suspect will appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (December 4) where he will face charges of rape and murder, including the outstanding rape case from 2024.
