Makhado siblings die in old refrigerator

Two young Makhado brothers were found unresponsive in an old refrigerator in what appears to have been a tragic accident.

LIMPOPO – A playful moment turned fatal for two young children from Muduluni after they were found dead inside an old refrigerator on Thursday afternoon.

They have been identified as the six-year-old Shumani and Dakalo Makamu.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi, the bodies were discovered inside a non-functional refrigerator at their home.

The children’s grandmother told police that she had gone to fetch firewood in the morning, leaving the two brothers watching television.

She said she had locked the gate and left the doors unlocked. When she returned around midday, she could not find the children. After searching the house, she discovered them inside the old refrigerator, unresponsive.

The family is in shock following the tragic incident. “We are greatly saddened by what happened. The two were still so young,” said Khabaza Makamu, the children’s aunt.

Local chief Peter Kutama extended his condolences and said the traditional council is assisting with funeral arrangements.

“This is a disaster for the community. We share in the deep pain of the bereaved family. Our motto is to transcend and go beyond the pain, and we wish strength to the family during this difficult time,” he said.

The children’s funeral will be held on Saturday in Muduluni.
