Makhado family seeks justice after man (21) gunned down

The family of 21-year-old Nthangeni Buasi is demanding answers after he was shot dead after a festival near Makhado.

LIMPOPO – The family of a 21-year-old man who was shot dead after attending a festival at a resort near Madombidzha on December 7 is demanding answers. The deceased has been identified as Nthangeni Buasi of Tshikhwani.

According to information received, Buasi and two friends were walking home from the festival when two men in a vehicle approached them. An altercation followed, during which a passenger got out of the car and opened fire, fatally wounding Buasi.

Vhembe police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi said the shooting had been linked to a hijacking that took place later that morning in Louis Trichardt.

After the attack on the three young men, the suspects allegedly drove towards town, where they hijacked a bakkie in Munnik Street.

“The police traced the suspects and found one in Madombidzha Zone 2. Upon the police’s arrival, the suspect took his own life. The deceased is identified as Mendoze Jose Jaime, aged 31,” Dathi confirmed.

He added that a murder case had been opened and that detectives were continuing their investigation. The firearm believed to have been used has been sent for ballistic testing.

Buasi’s grandmother, Sarah Tshiovhe, said the family would not rest until justice was served.

“We asked a lot of questions. What did my grandson do to these cruel men that made them kill him? We want justice for my grandson,” she told CV. She described Buasi as a “decent and respectful young man” and thanked the community for their support.

Local traditional leader chief Mbulaheni Sinthumule urged the community to remain vigilant, saying crime posed a serious threat to social stability.

“We are losing the leaders of tomorrow. Let us unite against this scourge of crime,” he said.

Buasi was laid to rest at the Tshikhwani cemetery on December 13.
