Man arrested with explosives near Beitbridge border
SANDF members arrested a 39-year-old man and seized 125 blasting cartridges and fuses while on patrol near the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina.
LIMPOPO – A 39-year-old man has been arrested near the Beitbridge Border Post for the alleged possession of a large quantity of illegal explosives.
The arrest occurred on Friday night (January 9) after members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), conducting a routine patrol, spotted two men carrying large bags.
Upon seeing the officials, the suspects dropped the bags and fled. One suspect was apprehended while the other escaped.
A search of the abandoned bags revealed 25 Carmex safety fuses and 125 blasting cartridges.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the suspect is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday (January 12) to face a charge of possession of illegal explosives.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers welcomed the arrest and commended the collaboration between law enforcement agencies.
