Black Leopards appoint Govinder, Lechesa as co-coaches

Black Leopards have appointed Sundra Govinder and Duncan Lechesa as co-coaches as they battle relegation in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

LIMPOPO – Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards have named Sundra Govinder and Duncan Lechesa as their new co-coaches, effective February 16.

They take over from Mabhuti Khenyeza, who had led the team earlier in the season.

Former Moroka Swallows coach Brandon Truter was in talks to join the club as a technical advisor, but the deal fell through before he could start.

Govinder and Lechesa inherit a team struggling at the bottom of the league, currently with 12 points from 17 matches and placed 16th out of 16 teams.

Their first match in charge will be at home against Hungry Lions on March 1.

Chairperson Tshifhiwa Thidiela said the appointment followed a careful review of the team’s poor performance.

“We wanted the right person for the job, rather than appoint someone just to please supporters who may not deliver results,” he said.

The new co-coaches face the challenge of revitalising the Leopards and steering them away from relegation as the season progresses.
